To ensure a positive experience for all participants, we’d like to clarify ULD’s out-of-bounds (OB) scoring rules and the process for handling call disputes. ULD Officials, including Ball Callers and Grid Workers, are responsible for making these calls. We understand the excitement of competition and the desire for a well-hit ball to be in bounds, but we ask for respect toward the officials’ decisions.

ULD OB Scoring Rules

  • The OB line can be marked by cones or a painted line. A ball must clear the line to be considered out.

  • If a ball touches the line (painted or cone-designated), it is still in bounds.

  • In cases where a Grid Worker is unsure if a ball is touching the line, the benefit of the doubt goes to the hitter.

  • Scoring is based on where the ball ends up, not its path. (See graphic below for illustration.)

Call Dispute Policy

Questioning a call is handled with a structured approach, similar to umpire disputes in baseball:

  • First offense: Verbal warning.

  • Second offense: Disqualification from the event.

  • Third offense (in a future event): Expulsion from the series/league.

  • Complaining or spreading misinformation to others carries the same penalties. We encourage proper etiquette and recognize that ULD staff and volunteers are committed to fair play, not against any individual.

Additional Notes

  • Grid Workers are positioned at a safe distance from the tee box, which may delay in/out calls for balls near the line. These decisions will be reviewed after the round.

  • If unsure about a ball’s status, participants are encouraged to assume it’s out and focus on the next shot.

  • Performance is measured by the best in-bounds balls, as out-of-bounds shots do not count toward the score.

Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a respectful and enjoyable environment.
