Bombs Away at ULD Mid Atlantic Competition

History and some new comers highlighted the Ultimate Long Drive league event at Arundel Golf Park in Glen Burnie, MD on Saturday June 24, 2023.

It was a hot muggy day for the long drivers who also had to battle a wind in their faces and the planes from BWI landing and taking off nearby.

Still, Kevin Porter, the Tournament Director, said “It was great competition and some firsts.”

There were a number of first-time hitters, including a competitor who might be the oldest ever to compete, but certainly the oldest women.

Sharon Lee Roz-Smith took the 75 and older division with a drive of 124 yards.

At the same time, her grandson, Dylan Spinnato, who holds the World Championship for Under 11 Division, hit his longest drive at 239 yards and won again.

And three new long-hitters joined the ULD as part of the military and first-responders who now are eligible to compete in the World Championships in October in Columbia, SC.

In the Pro Open Men’s Division, Allen Peake kept up his torrid pace.  He won with a drive of 355.6 yards to take the top pro prize.

Kevin tells us Peake’s shot could have been longer but he hit a tree at the end of the range.

The best battle was between Kristina Demmick and Lindsay Bartell in the Women 35+.

They had to go to an extra set where Kristina beat Lindsay 249 to 246.3 yards to take the title.

Despite Lindsay’s loss, it was quite an afternoon as this was her first competition.

Another first, according to Kevin, was three husband and wife couples that competed.

The next event for the Mid Atlantic Division is July 15, 2023 at the Gauntlet in Fredericksburg, VA from noon until 3 pm.
